Blueberry Picking
Yummy, big Dutchboy blueberries for the picking. We managed to pick over 9 lbs! Time to learn how to make some jam! We are freezing the rest for quick, cool snacks during this summer heat. Bailey likes to eat them by the handful to mouth full. Finnegan feeds them to mama or squishes them. Both enjoyed breaking up their time by picking for 1/3 then playing with the other kids the remaining 2/3 of our time at the farm.

dessert or vegetables?
I sometimes wonder about my son's affection for dessert. When I was a kid I would wait (somewhat) patiently for whatever dessert my dad had baked. On those nights he baked my dad would have a late night watching tv and reading his educational magazines. The pan would be empty by morning. Where does Bailey gets his cravings...
Today I was comforted by being horrified, shocked and given the giggles at the grocery store.
Two boys were trying their best to not ask for much as their dad grabbed a pound of meat and bagged salad. I met up with them at the cashier who was next to a table full temptations. With the utmost eagerness they salivate without presumption to ask for any. They simply shout, "oh, SUGAR cookies and cupcakes!"
The little one who had to be a plump eight years of wonder touched my carrots and asked in earnest, "what are those?" I tried to hide my shock and cooly replied, "those are carrots." My mind swimming with horror, seriously kid? I squash* those thoughts down and think about the proper solution to his ignorance. This kid needs to get in the kitchen with mom or dad!
On the way home I thought about the last time Bailey helped me in the kitchen. It's been awhile. But the saving grace is he knows his vegetables, fruits, and peanut butter sandwiches. I think I won't fret too much over dessert.
As for that little boy, perhaps he was confused because the orange root was perched on top of my cupcakes.
